Santa Cruz Woods and Beach Wedding
Caleb and Rachel have been friends for years. When Rachel came home from college over Christmas break, Caleb and Rachel’s friendship grew into something more. They realized their true feelings for one another and decided to start dating.
Fast forward to August 28, 2019; Caleb planned a picnic for Rachel’s birthday at their favorite spot overlooking the ocean. Caleb had his friends set up everything before they got there: trees were wrapped in copper lights, a picnic blanket, basket with wine and cookies, Caleb’s guitar, and little jars with lights in them.
The overlook was empty and free of the regularly roaring wind when they walked up and Caleb surprised her with the picnic setup.
After eating some birthday cookies, Caleb pulled out his guitar and played Rachel a song that he had written for her, which made them both tear up. Rachel still had not caught on at this point because she figured this was all a surprise for her birthday.
Caleb then pulled out a present for her, a scrapbook that said “Dating” on it that had all their polaroids they had taken throughout their relationship. He then told her that he had another present, had her close her eyes, and said “I need you to stand up” and she instantly realized what was happening. He gave her the second gift, another scrapbook, that read “Engaged.” He then dropped to his knee and proposed and Rachel had the best birthday she could have imagined. They were both so overjoyed.
6 months later and they’re married.
I am so unbelievably joyful and stoked that I was able to photograph their wedding day.
Their joy was so evident throughout their day, a day that was supposed to rain, but yet only poured until the very minute we needed to start taking portraits. Caleb and Rachel seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day and reciting their vows to each other was one of the most touching and beautiful moments I have ever witnessed. This couple couldn’t help but hold each other so tight and appreciate everything about each other in this moment in the woods. I felt so blessed that I was the person they trusted to share that with them. The entire day was truly filled with so much joy and giddiness. Their dance party and sparkler exit was the perfect way to the most perfect day. My heart is filled with all the feels. Scroll down to see some of my favorites from the day.
